Originally formed in the 1930’s as the Ashwell Players, the Ashwell Theatre Club (ATC) was re-formed on the 12 April 1976 by Kathy & Ken Hull, Marie & Pauline Whitby, Robin Lipscombe, Vicky Darlow and Jo Berry.

The first production in 1976 was an Old Tyme Music Hall to celebrate the Centennial year of Ashwell’s Merchant Taylor’s School performed in the Ashwell Village Hall. Kathy Hull directed it, Marie Whitby, who is a ceramic artist in Ashwell, her sister Pauline and Peter Howes all played a part and were also members of the original 1930’s Ashwell players, established by Marie and Pauline’s parents who were headmaster and mistress at the Merchant Taylor’s School.
